Stages 03:01
All the world's a stage There are many here today In bedrooms and kitchens all across the USA We've been trying to reach you from across the air Backlit and in shadows with 2020 hair from our Stages I bounce the walls every day in a cage like a mouse trap in a maze With the end on the way we'll recover by degrees I just hope that the cure Is not worse than disease I’ve nearly given up on this dramatic season The world is kind of screwed up For no particular reason I bounce the walls every day and I gaze like a mouse trapped in a maze With the end on the way we'll recover by degrees I just hope the cure Is not worse than disease The first stage along the way will it find you on your knees As you stumble on the way on the first thing that you see

Don’t pass me that bottle Don't want to take a hit Don’t pass me that bottle Don't know what you put in it You say the truth is never plain And media is all to blame Don't tell me confusion is the only thing that makes any sense And the chaos you're building is the only thing of Consequence You say your will it won’t bend And it's alright if the world ends Don’t pick up that weapon Why did you choose to fight? Cause it's just the last thing before they turn out the lights You say your will it won’t bend And it's alright if the world ends

You complain about that hero’s skin It’s not the same as what you’re living in Hey it’s all just make believe I don’t know why you’re making a scene The world isn’t just how you see it All kinds of folks, you better believe it Who should have the pleasure to see The kind of people they would like to be Right here it’s so plain to see Right now, you’re killing so many dreams Right here if only you and I could agree To hear the story right now Superman is from another world He’s always save the girl No reason he’d be black or white Your color code is just like kryptonite Krypton may be his faraway home. He doesn’t have a bulletproof soul Lois Lane can always make him feel It’s just his heart that can not heal Right here it’s so plain to see Right now, you’re killing so many dreams Anyone could save the day If we read the story right now Who’s gonna save the world not you, not this time Who’s gonna save the world not you, not this time That little mermaid was never real Can’t catch her with rod and reel Half human half fish in the sea Any kid could dream to be The hero can’t always wear The colors From your childhood dreams Anyone could save the day If we write the story right now. Who’s gonna save the world not you, not this time Who’s gonna save the world not you, not this time

Snow melts in the gutter A little less than before the same place we all started always hoped for something more The streets smell like oil and the shops are closed down the damage is done to the good and the bad parts of town When your hope’s all burned to the ground Who's surviving in Calamity town? Feels the same if you float or drown It’s down to luck in Calamity Town You can’t drive around even look someone in the eye Someone always brings a gun the fear is hard to describe No innocence here, no lives too cheap to shut down still a target for every calamity that goes down It always starts with an insult nothing more or less Personality dramas another full court mess Hate’s latest victim and they’ll be plenty more Never just rains until the sky opens up it’s doors

Penny has a notebook she spends a lot of time with. She's sitting on the sidewalk With an educated look Maybe that note book has pages filled with lists Of money that’s owed her to be collected with her fists Page after page after page please don’t let it say Page after page after page of “all work and no play” She’s just writing down lines that she’ll keep to herself But maybe someday she’ll tear it all up And throw it away Maybe she’s a poet with clever metaphors Elaborate rhyming schemes she can only write outdoors. Perhaps a manifesto? Political ideas A system for future a radical New Deal Page after page after page It better not say Page after page after page of “all work and no play” She’s just writing down lines That she’ll keep to herself But maybe someday she’ll put it out there And blow us away

School's Out 03:25
Turned on the news this morning Another trigger warning Darkness at noon School’s out too soon Empty thoughts and prayers hiding under chairs Body count just grew What are they supposed to do? Don’t try to say it’s all just a lie Actors on stage with false flags to fly But they don’t get curtain calls To play the victim one more time Come tomorrow morning When battle lines are forming nothing that we say is going to change the tune Don’t try to say it’s all just a lie Actors on stage with false flags to fly What can you possibly say When it’s time to say goodbye

Screaming out until your face turns blue Is this the only thing you ever do? It’s been this way since the day of your christening Making noises no one wants to hear What’s got you so full of fear Nobody’s coming after you Pray all you like, God’s not listening Open up your mouth to curse the day You don’t let the facts get in the way What’s got you so full of scorn? Do you rue the day you were born? This boy’s cried wolf too many times We’re not living in a nursery rhyme Nobody wants to hear it now Cry all night, Nobody’s listening

I’m a fool for this town ever since I was born A sidekick to a man still drunk in the morning Not the smartest to be in the town I was renowned Just a fool to this town I was schooled in this town but it never fooled me Jokers were wild with all of their banter Druggers and nerds and tough guy buffoons Juggling words struck me as fooling around I’m a fool for this town but it never occurred to me I was the clown I’m a fool for this town So I left for new pastures of Tricksters and Pranksters, Madcaps and Pantaloons, Cads and Lambasters, Jesters that sing for the Kings just to steal their crowns I’m a fool for this town but it never occurred to me I was the clown I’m a fool for this town I went to the circus but they wouldn’t send me in The tears and the frowns wouldn’t mean my death Held Court for a while but in all of my trials Sentenced to play the part of a sad Charlie Brown When I came back it seemed almost sensible Kind of surprised to be so apprehensible I’m a fool for this town but it never occurred to me that I could still drown Waiting for jeers and curtains to come down While I lie on the hill with the eyes in my head spinning round spinning, spinning, spinning, spinning around I’m a fool for this town but it never occurred to me That I was the clown A fool for this town Fool for this town

I had a dream I was back in a cubicle with nothing to do Heard a song I hadn't heard in so long and thought about you I saw a plane in the sky, it went tumbling straight to the ground All the faceless people that surrounded me didn't make a sound Come with me take a ride we'll go anywhere Come with me we can fly Come with me take a ride out into space My dreams are so surreal Yeah, I worry a lot When I wake with you next to me I'm glad for what I've got. I can't recall all the things that I've ever seen Or the places I've been The faces of the kids from the neighborhood have faded away Walking by the place that I grew up in on Eagle Lane All the houses and the trees were familiar but didn't look the same Come with me take a ride We'll go anywhere Come with me We can fly Come with me Take a ride out into space

I’m trying not to fall Trying not to fail Trying not to trail behind But I’ve fallen so far I can’t see the top And the bottom's coming up blind Trying to break my fall Is the only position I ever use I’m trying not to fall, Standing up to you even when I know you’re there You’ve caught me before taken my trust But I probably should prepare To take a good look around and not see you anywhere I'm Trying not to fall Cause I know the consequence of them all I’m trying not to fall Cause I’ve fallen before And the bottom is a long way down I'm Trying not to sink cause every time I do, the next step ends in a flash I'm trying not to slip cause every single step could be the first or last I'm Trying not to fall Cause I know the consequence of them all
